It is Finished

This is one of my favorite songs and with tomorrow being Good Friday I thought I would share the words...

Hark! The Voice of Love and Mercy
Hark! the voice of love and mercy sounds a-loud from Calvary;
see, it rends the rocks a-sunder-der shakes the earth, and veils the sky:
"It is finished! It is finished! It is finished"
Hear the dying Savior cry; hear the dying Savior cry

"It is finished!" O what please do these precious words afford;
heavenly blessings,without measure, flow to us from Christ the Lord;
"It is finished! It is finished! It is finished!"
Saints the dying words record; saints the dying words record.

Finished all the types and shadows of the ceremonial law;
finished all that God had promised;death and hell no more shall awe:
"It is finished! It is finished! It is finished!"
Saints from hence your comfort draw; saints,from hence your comfort draw.

Tune your harps a new, ye seraphs, join to sing the glorious theme;
all in earth, and all in heaven, join to praise Emmanuel's name;
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glory to the bleeding lamb! Glory to the bleeding lamb!

I just love the words in this song. The gospel is so powerful, yet so simple. I picture Jesus on the cross simply saying, "It is finished." and with that last breath he gave HIS life so that I could have life! How undeserving am I yet so incredibly thankful. As I read in the Jesus Storybook Bible last night (if you don't have it, you NEED to get it) the story of the crucifixion, my eyes started to well up with tears (I know you guys must think I cry all the time, BUT i really don't) In the story it talks about Jesus crying out for his father and for the first time and the last time he heard a terrible, endless silence. I thought about that, how God turned his back on Jesus as Jesus bore the sin of the world. He did that for me. I know the truth that Jesus will NEVER leave me or forsake me, but for that moment on the cross Jesus was abandoned by his Father. It had to be that way! In this season of my life I just fee especially thankful for the gospel. What Jesus went through feels really real to me right now. I pray that the gospel would be real to you too and that during this Easter weekend you would take time to meditate on the cross and what Jesus went through so that you could have life!

On another note if read this before Saturday please pray for good weather for NYC! The Childrens Ministry at Redeemer is putting on a very large Easter Egg Hunt/Family Picnic in Central Park Saturday morning. We are excited about it and praying for good weather for the weekend. I will post pictures of the event next week.
