CIty Saturday

This morning I arose bright and early to hit up the very famous Musuem of Modern Art with the kids from the Leadership Academy. Even though I hear talk of this museum often, this was my first time entering the doors. I would like to say I enjoyed it, but taking around 30 city kids who have attention spans of about 5 seconds when it comes to art, made for quite a interesting and very long morning. They were much more interested in taking pictures of themselves then actually looking at the famous pieces of art. We did get the opportunity to have a private tour of the Tim Burton exhibit which was quite fascinating. Let's be honest, the man is weird, but his work is incredibly interesting in a distorted way.

These 2 pictures were the only ones I was able to capture with them actually looking at the art. The museuem educator was talking through several Picasso pieces with us.

fascinated with the very large canvas of "splatter" paint.

Can you guess what this is a painting of? I love it!

These two pictures below are why I don't understand modern art. Three blank canvases are considered art? The other picture looks like shelving you use to organize your closet, but apparently it can be considered art. My favorite moment was when we almost tripped over a shoe box only to find out it's a very famous piece of art. Then there was the yogurt lid that was considered art. The interesting thing is that all these pieces have long explanations of why they are considered art worthy of this museum. It baffled me, but it's interesting none the less.

Although I along with the other mentors love spending time with the kids on Saturdays, we were "done" by the time the morning was over. We decided to indulge in some comfort food at 5 Guys Burgers and Fries. This was actually my first time at this burger joint, but I have heard my family RAVE about it for the last couple years. The fries were definitely great, but what caught my attention is pictured below...

FREE REFILLS in all caps brought joy to my heart. This is a rare find in the expensive city of New York and it is one of my favorite things. I could really care less about food(shocking as it seems), but I love fountain Diet Coke and the freedom to go back and get more of it just such a a wonderful thing!

After lunch I walked down 6th Ave and took a few shots of the city streets...

I made a quick stop at one of my new favorite stores! Even though I think the clothes at Anthropologie are a little pricey, the home section is amazing(seriously, go check it out)! I received the bowls(pictured below) at a Christmas party this past Christmas and fell in love with them. I knew that if these cute bowls came from this Anthropologie I needed go check out what other fun stuff they had. I was very much impressed and will now be doing a bit more shopping at this incredibly cute and trendy store.

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in New York City and a great day to be out walking the city streets.

Be back soon...

I love this post and love the pictures your new camera is taking - of course I love the one taking the pictures also. You inspire me to start a picture collection of fun places and sights.
