US OPEN BABY.....

Growing up a tennis play it was always my DREAM to one day go to the US Open.  I use to always see Arthur Ashe Stadium on TV and hope that one day I would be there.  Well many years later that dream came true!  It actually came true last year, but the Lord provided an opportunity for me to be able to attend this year too!  I had decided this year that I wouldn't spend the money to go, but thanks to some very generous friends I had the opportunity to spend last Thursday at this very beautiful stadium!
Our first stop in the morning was to practice courts.....and look who we saw??  Ok so seeing Venus Williams in person was a real dream of mine!  She was a little bit of an idol for me when I was playing tennis in high school:-) It was so fun to see her practice for a little bit!
We also watched Zvonareva practice.  She played in the finals against Clijsters, but Clijsters won.  It was still great that she made it to the finals.  Not many peopled expected that to happen.
We also got to see Petrova practice.  She is a beast!
Esther Vergeer was practicing at the same time as well.  It was so interesting to watch wheel chair tennis....definitely something I have never seen before, but so cool! She is undefeated in singles and doubles since 2002. Isn't that crazy???
After watching everyone practice we finally made it to the grandstand.....Arthur Ashe Stadium.
We made it in time for the mixed doubles final.  USA won the title with Liezal Hueber and Bob Bryan. It was fun to watch the award ceremony at the end.  You can see in the picture that Mary Jo Fernandez was doing the interviewing.
After the doubles came the great mens quarterfinals with Youzhny and Wawrinka.  Youzhny won and went on to be defeated by Nadal in the semifinals.
It was so fun to watch these matches in person and just be a part of the US Open experience.  Every time I watch tennis in person I remember how much I LOVE it!
I snapped this picture on our way out of the stadium.  It was a super cloudy day.  I love the way the clouds look as if they are laying on top of the buildings. I still have moments when I see the NYC skyline and think to myself, "I can't believe I live in the middle of that"...
I am so thankful for my day at the open.
