I have been taking my 2nd photography class for the last 9 weeks. Along with my Photography 1 class this has been one of my most favorite things I have done while living in NYC. It has become a really fun hobby for me and hopefully something I will use for years to come!
I shared last week about the documentary project I was working on. And now I wanted to share my Photography exposition with you.
It was really fun to display my work and invite friends to come!
All of my roommates came, which really meant so much to me!
I also had some other friends make an appearance. Pictured below are Meghan, Amy, and Maggie. Emily, Matt, and Mike also came, but I didn't get a picture of them! It really meant the world to me that my friends care enough to come down to Union Square on a Thursday night to see my amateur work. Thanks Friends!
My classmates all chose different projects and it was displayed for all to see!
I ended up being really happy with how my project turned out. Although you can't see the photos well at all in this picture they all have purpose behind them. The first one in my story is of Poet's Walk. It is meant to give you an idea of where Mr. Constant stands. you can't see him here, but he is actually in the far right of the picture. Quite a small piece in a large scene. The 2nd picture is him with the images of people framed in his saxophone. They are blurry in the background but they are there and his presence is much larger. The 3rd picture I think is my favorite. it is a very crisp picture of his mouth blowing in to his instrument. I love the way his face is expressed in this image. The 4th picture is a close-up of his saxophone and hand. My goal in this picture was to capture the ruggedness of his hands and the wear and tear on his instrument. It represents his age and the number of years he has been standing in this same spot playing. The 5th picture is nothing really special, but just another more full body image of him playing his saxophone, and finally the 6th picture probably has the most meaning to me. you cannot see it here, but as Mr. Constant plays his saxophone, 2 ghostly images are walking in front of him. I purposely captured this image to represent his presence always being there as people come and go. Although compositionally is not such great work, I wanted to include it in the set because of the meaning behind it.
I think more than anything this class helped me see the specific area of photography I want to focus on. I still have so much to learn, but I am enjoying developing this skill.
And if any of you need photos taken feel free to call me! I am looking for people to be my practice subjects. Any takers?
