Arise

On Wednesday we spent the day at Arise.  Arise is a Gospel-Centered ministry for vulnerable children in Cape Town.   It is affliated with the same denomination as Point Community, The Church of England in South Africa.
We spent the morning preparing for a kids club we were in charge of that aternoon.
The theme verse for our time was Matthew 13:44
We had about 50  kids (Kindergarten -5th grade) come from the surrounding neighborhood and township. They come to Arise one day a week for kids club.    We sang songs with them, performed a skit, and taught a bible lesson.  We divided the kids up into small groups and were able to talk through the gospel with them.  It was so neat to talk with them and share Christ with them.
In this picture we are showing them pictures of where we were from.  It's fun to be from a place that so many around the world are familiar with.  we bought lots of NYC souveniers and were able to give each child something from the big apple!  They were so EXCITED to have something from NYC!
We also played lots of games with the kids.  We bought this huge parachute for them which they LOVED.  It was huge and so fun!  One of the things I loved the most is how simplistic these kids are.  They don't have all the entertainment and technology that our kids in the USA have.  Instead they entertain themselves with all kinds of made-up games, which they loved teaching us!
Unfortunately Arise policy does not allow us to post pictures of the kids online, so I can't show you any of their cute faces.  It was a great day spending time with these children.  SO many of them come from very broken homes and need lots of love.  Even though it was only one day, I was thankful our team could love on these kids and share the love of Christ with them!
