After 8 great days with the Fellers seeing their ministry and participating in the church/kids ministry, it was time to pack our bags and make our way back to the USA.
We flew from Manta to Quito, but had a very long layover in Quito.
Since we had so much time we booked a tour to go to this really interesting Equator musuem and see some of Quito.
It was really cool to be standing on the Equator "line". I actually had the opportunity to do this in Peru a few years ago, so it was cool to do it in Ecuador!
The tour guide led us through some really neat experiments that prove we actually were on the equator line. One of those experiments was trying to walk a line with your eyes closed. It was so funny, but no one could do it. For some reaon on the equator your equalibrium is off and you can't balance. It was like everyone had one too many drinks! We also did some other experiments with balancing an egg, and spinning water that all proved the difference when we were in the northern hemisphere or when we were in the southern hemisphere.
After the musuem we rode over to see this famous monument that stands in the middle of Quito.
After a few hours of exlporing it was time to jet plane it back the big apple.
Overall it really was a great trip to Ecuador. It is definitely a different experience doing a missions trip without a team. I found myself many times wishing my Cape Town team was with me singing songs to the kids and leading bible stories, but I am thankful I had the opportunity to do a trip with my parents. I am thankful my mom had the opportunity to take her first missions trip. The Lord used this trip to impact us all and teach us more about his kingdom.
There is great growth and blessing that comes with raising support, being taken out of your comfort zone, being in a differen culture, investing in people whose lives are very different than your own, and being a part of the the Lord's work in another area of the world.
I pray that short term missions will always be a part of my life.
