I live in a city of art and culture. A city that is home to some of the most famous musuems in the world. As much as I often feel like I should spend more time at these museums I honestly just don't do it.
Musuems overhwelm me and at times bore me (although I know shouldn't admit that)
one of the museums I've spent the least amount of time in is the Met. I've always had good intentions of getting to know this musuem but the years have passed and my time there has been little, so last week I packed up my camera and decided to wander the floors of this very famous and beautiful place of art and culture.
When people ask me why I like photography so much I tell them it's because I love capturing moments in life that will never happen again. Life happens in fleeting moments and although we will always have the memories we will never be able to go back and re-live the moment that we just experienced. Photography is a way to have reminders of those moments, to capture them and hold on to them. As I wandered the galleries of paintings I was reminded that art is the same way. These painters captured moments, moments that tell stories.
This painting below by Van Gogh is called "woman rocking a cradle" as the rope she is holding on to is attached to a cradle with a baby in it. Looking at this painting I want to know more about the lady, her story, what she was thinking as she was being painted.
I loved wandering these galleries and thinking about these stories of the art that I was taking in.
I felt overwhelmed wandering around with my camera snapping shots of what was before me trying to take it all in. The arichtecture and sculptures were breathtaking.
Although I spent several hours going from room to room I feel like I barely scratched the surface of this beautiful museum.
Thankfully this famous place of art is only a short walk through the park.
Now that I know what I was missing I think I'll go more often.
