Thanksgiving Week and Christmas is Here!

Before you read this post I am just going to warn you that it is long and there are a lot of pictures!

SO my parents spent Thanksgiving week in the city with me. We stayed quite busy and I thought I would share our time together through pictures. We did spend one day hanging curtains and doing projects around my apt, but I will post pictures of the finished project another day!

Ok, back to the fun part of their visit. When they arrived in the city they came straight to my office to see where I spend my days. And since my office is 2 blocks from Macy's we walked down to see all the Christmas decorations and the cool store windows. If you have never seen the famous store windows of Macy's that needs to be on your life "to do" list! They are amazing!

Next I took them to Bryant Park(where Fashion week takes place) to walk around the Christmas village and see the ice skating rink. The building behind my parents is the New York City Public Library. That is another beautiful place to visit in the city.

Tuesday night we went to see "Bye Bye Birdie" on broadway. It was such a great show. John Stamos starred in the show. I use to have a crush on him when he was Jessie on Full House so it was fun to see him act in person.

Wednesday night we went and saw the balloons for the Macy's Day Parade. On Wednesday during the day the balloons are blown up around the block of the Museum of Natural History(which happens to be 2 blocks from apt) It is so cool, because you just walk down the sidewalks and all the balloons are netted down beside you. You can see from these pictures that the balloons are HUGE. This event draws such a huge crowd and therefore makes my neighborhood super busy. Although the crowd makes living life a little more difficult, I love that my neighborhood is turned in to magical balloon world for 24 hours!

On Friday we went to brunch at one of my favorite restaurants in the city, Alice's Tea Cup. At first my dad was a little skeptical of such a place, but the food is to die for! They are known for their scones and they do not let you down!

We spent Friday walking around the city, shopping, and enjoying the beginning of Christmas in the city.

The tree at Rockefeller Center.

Starbucks in Rockefeller Center. This is one of my favorite places in the city. You can sit at these tables and watch all the ice skaters. On a weekday morning it is not very crowded and I love to go there and just sit. For some reason, it feels really peaceful to me.

We ended the day by surprising my mom with tickets to The Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes! My mom has been dying to go to this for sometime. We told her that we just could not do it this year, so on Friday after we left Starbucks we just "happened" to walk by Radio City. The line was forming to go inside and I asked my mom if she she wanted to go. She was like, "no it's ok, there is no way we can get tickets now". and I said, "Are you sure mom because I have 3 tickets right here" and thats when I pulled the tickets out of my pocket! Of course she started screaming and was so excited!! I was excited as well. I went last year with some friends, but this show is amazing! It is worth coming to NYC at Christmas time just to see this show and get to go inside this beautiful theatre.

Well those are the highlights of our Thanksgiving week in the city! We had a great time!

The Christmas season is officially here and life is busy! I LOVE Christmas in the city. It really is so incredibly magical. If you are having trouble getting into the Christmas season this year just come on up to this city. There is no way you can not be in the Christmas spirit here. There are tree stands everywhere, Christmas tunes being sung in all the subway stations and on the streets, the tree at Rockefeller center, lights lights and more lights, beautiful store front windows, and on and on and on. Sometimes when I am walking down the street I feel like I am walking in a movie. It is just so magical! I want to soak it up the next two weeks before I go south for the holidays.

Two weeks to enjoy Christmas in this city and here is what I have going on in my life...
  • Birthday Party for Jesus
  • 4 Christmas parties to attend
  • 1 birthday party to attend
  • craziness at work with 4 special Christmas services occuring at Redeemer and a Christmas caroling/program at the nursing home that our children are involved in.
  • feeding a pre-Christmas meal to the homeless
  • helping with the Leadership Academy Christmas party
  • lots of baby-sitting to help earn extra money for Christmas this year
  • Christmas shopping/creating
  • 2 sets of company coming to visit
To say the least life is busy for me right now, but I want to soak up every moment up it!

Tis the Season!
