One afternoon a week I have the privilege of leaving the office a little early to go spend a few hours with some super cute little girls! If you remember, last year I was working part-time at Redeemer and nannying part time for a family. Well when I went full time at Redeemer I wanted to still remain connected to this family and stay involved in the girls lives! Thankfully my boss at Redeemer is best friends with the mom and was great with me continuing to baby-sit one afternoon a week(I also fit in some weekend time with them as well)! I really enjoy my time with the girls and they continually crack me up!! They are 5, 3, and 18 months so they are all at different stages but all hilarious in their own ways.
Most afternoons when I am with them we head to Central Park to play! Normally we go to this one playground that is filled with UWS kids, parents, and nannies! Sometimes I just laugh to myself as I listen to the moms talk...it really is a different world. A couple weeks ago I heard a group of moms talking about what realtor they all used to get their house in the Hamptons for the summer. It wasn't a question of whether they had a summer/vacation house.....it was where it would be located. Another Convo I overheard was three 8 year olds talking about their IPhone Apps. That is just a couple conversation out of many where I am like "seriously?" BUT today was a different conversation that I overheard and it came from the mouths of 3 year olds (one of which was the 3 year old I was keeping)
Picture two cute little 3 year old girls playing in the sand box at the playground:
3 year old girl A: What does your schedule look like this week?
3 year old girl B: Um I don't know...
3 year old girl A: well I need to run some errands, but we need to have a play date!
UM SERIOUSlY???? I started laughing so hard! I could not even believe I heard that out of the mouth of such a tiny person. I think we can say she had heard that said from someone before???:-) But I have to say, that's the life of a New York City Kid! Life is run by schedules even when you are in pre-school!
In our Children's Ministry department we always joke about how we need to write down the funny things that city kids say! There perception of the world really is different than so many other kids and they say some pretty funny things.
I will leave you with one funny comment an elementary kid made in Sunday School one morning.
TEACHER: Teaching a lesson and starts talking to the kids about rural areas (nor sure what the context was). She looks to the class and says "does anybody know what a rural area is?
KID IN CLASS: Yeah isn't that the suburbs (haha!)
As I think of more funny comments I will try to put them on here! They definitely make me laugh and hopefully they will you too!
