Cape Town

On Monday I will fly across the Atlantic Ocean and land in Cape Town, South Africa.  I will spend 2 weeks in Cape Town, and I couldn't be more excited about it.  We have been praying, thinking, and planning for this trip since January.  Amy and I recruited a team of 16 people and together we have been working hard to get ready for this trip.  Every team member raised $3000 of personal support and then as a team we had 2 rather large fundraisers.  It's been a long road, but it's almost time to go!  Last week we had a packing party where we packed 16 suitcases full of toys, supplies, food, and books that we wil donate to the orphanges where we will be volunteering.

We are partnering with another city church, Point Community.  The Pastor came to Redeemer for church planting training and walked away desiring a team from Redeemer to come work with his church.  2 years later it is finally happening!  I am so excited and thankful to be co-leading this team.  We will be spending a good bit of time with the church serving them in various ways: leading 2 worship services, speaking at their community groups, helping them get ready for a large Christmas evangelistic event, and going out on the beach to share our faith and tell people about the church.  We will also be spending several days at 2 different orphanges: playing with the children, loving on them, leading school assemblys, and helping with the after school program.  One day will be spent at a homeless shelter: serving food, talking with the residents, and doing projects around the grounds. The rest of our time will be spent touring Cape Town, and gaining a glimpse of God's work that is occuring across the world.

I love mission's.  New York City is definitely a mission field of it's own, but I am thankful for the opportunity to take the Gospel to another country.  I am thankful for the opportunity to partner with such a great team, to visit a city I have never been to before, to be taken out of my comfort zone and to learn and grow and be challenged.  I do not know what the next 2 weeks holds, but I am excited to find out.

I would appreciate your prayers.  It is great comfort to know that the Lord has gone before us. He is in control and He has promised to take care of us.  My prayer on this trip is that His will would be done.

I look forward to sharing all about the trip ony my blog when I return!
