January, February, and March are hard months in NYC. I try to prepare myself every year for these months, but every year it hits me like a ton of bricks. It's cold, dreary, and quiet. I KNOW other places in the country are cold as well, but New York is an outside city, like we don't have garages with cars you can warm up in the morning before your commute. No, we walk. We stand at the cold bus stop waiting for the bus or walk the blocks to the subway station. New Yorkers hibernate in the winter and every year during these months I wonder why I live in the northeast. I keep wondering if one day I'll get use to it, but this is my 5th winter and it's just as hard every year. I just keep thinking, this to shall pass, and soon spring will be upon. And spring in NYC is beautiful! One day this cold will end. One day....
And to make things worse the flu (like you didn't know) is terrible this year. And yes I've been sick. Other than working a half day on Monday I've been in my apt, in my bed for almost 4 days. Last night I was beginning to wonder if I was just going crazy and maybe how I felt was normal. But finally today it all lifted and I felt well again and it feels great to feel healthy. Everytime I'm sick i'm reminded that good health is something I need to not take for granted. I am sooooo ready to leave my apt in the morning and live life as normal.
On a totally different note, we've been doing some re-decorating at 9A. Aren't we always re-decorating? We bought some paint, made an Ikea trip, and did a little sprucing! I'm going to take pictures with my real camera soon, but here are a couple iphone pics.
I wasn't smart enough to take a before and after pic, but Perryn and I took her wooden Target dresser painted it a bright yellow and turned it into a entertainment stand! P found some cute knobs at Hobby Lobby to add a little character. We didn't sand it before, so that it would have a more rough vintage look to it.
You really can't see this well, but I'll explain. from top left - bottom left. 1) Foyer re-do (new lamps, new centerpiece), 2) Living room corner spruce up with new to us lamp, new print, hung pictures, 3) Dresser re-do. I painted this mirror bright green (to match the green in my bedroom) and P re-arranged some things of mine to give my dresser a new look. 4) Butler's cabinet re-do. Again you can't really see this well, but I framed some bright cards I had and P did a little re-arranging for me to make a new look. Have I mentioned it's great living with an interior designer?
I am going to take some new pics of the apt and will do a full post on all the re-decorating we've done over the last several months!
Stay warm!
