Living life in a big city can be overwhelming and exhausting. There are days when it can feel like the city streets are swalllowing you whole and you wonder how you are going to keep breathing. It can feel loud and abrasive and incredibly fast paced.
You feel like you need to escape and find a place to exhale, to take deeps breaths and to let them out. It is a learning process to find your places of rest and quiet, to find places where you can hear yourself think and you can just be alone and in quiet.
For me my place is in Central Park. My first week in the city I found a rock and from that moment on it was "my rock". I don't take people there, I don't tell people where it is, it's just mine and mine alone to sit and to breath and have those moments of sanity that living life with millions willl force you to need.
Central Park is my refuge. A place where I often go on my days off or after long day of work.
And so last week after a long, hard week I went to this place of refuge and brought my camera. I tried to capture snapshots of the beauty that this park brings in the fall; the leaves, the colors, the crispness
It seems that this man had the same idea as me, sitting and just being with his dog and his guitar, enjoying those peaceful moments that we all need
It was an unnusually quiet morning in the park. I loved hearing the crunch of the leaves as I strolled along.
I love the way the buildings peak behind the trees reminding you of the great city that you live in.
NYC in the fall might be one of the most magical places in the world to me (other than Christmas in NYC) . The crisp autumn air and vibrant colors of leaves always makes me feel like I'm walking through a picture perfect movie scene.
When many people think of NYC they think of Time Square and the subway and tall buildings and crowded streets. And yes that is NYC, but it is also this. It's bridges and tall trees and grassy patches and running trails. NYC is a world of beauty that many people miss out on when they think only of the other aspects. And believe it or not it is possible to find quiet and peace and solitude in this bustling city.
For me it's found in this park. I'm so thankful that his place of beauty and rest is only 2 blocks from my apt.
and since i'm posting pictures of fall colors let me not forget my favorite quote about NYC in the fall:
“Don't you love New York in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.” ― Nora Ephron

Bethany these pictures are breathtaking! I love our Fall here but there is nothing like Central Park with all those beautiful trees. I remember loving them the Fall Catherine and I came up there to visit. Thanks for sharing.
