Ok so I live life in New York CIty. The city where many television shows and movies are filmed, the home of Broadway, the finance capital of the world, the UN, a leading fashion city, and so on. You get my point right? It is a city of very influential people and I love that! But I live daily life here. I don't really always think about the people I am passing on the street or the even the people I am interacting with. I do have those "this is my life?" moments. It happened a couple weeks ago, when I realized that I personally knew 2 of Oprah's guest that were on her show within one week of each other (because they both go to Redeemer and both have kids in our ministry) but you know it's definitely not something I think about very much anymore. And the whole passing celebrity's on the street thing is fun, but New Yorkers definitely don't make a big deal about it. It's their home too and they are just trying to do life. It would be a little odd if I stopped Ben Affleck and asked him for an autograph when he's just trying to take a morning jog in the park. But it's still so fun to see them, even when you do kind of have to act nonchalant about it.
Ok but yesterday I totally threw out the "nonchalant thing" when I found out Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock were filming a movie 2 blocks from my apt. I mean I was on my way to the gym and trying to mind my own business, but as soon as I heard the words "Tom Hanks is across the street" you better believe I was going to see him. So what did I do? I made the 2 friends I was with make a lap around the block(out of our way) and walk by him 3 times. We started to look a little obvious, but I did. not. care. I was going to see Tom Hanks as much as I could. I mean I love him!! Oh and then of course on my way back home from the gym I had to take a little detour and walk by him once again. you know, just because I could. At least by the 4th time, I put my ipod in so I looked like I did not care, even though I was totally gawking. I did not see Sandra Bullock, but I have actually seen her before in the city. I am kind of hoping they are going to be filming more in my neighborhood, but if they do I might have to go back to my nonchalant new yorker attitude again. Oh and in case you are curious, the movie they are filming is called "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"
