D.C with DAD

This weekend I bolt bussed it to Washington DC  to meet up with my dad.  He was in DC for a couple days for work.  Although I have no pictures (due to strict regulations) my first stop was spending the afternoon at the Pentagon.  My dad had to do a briefing there so I tagged along! One of my dad's friends took us on an awesome tour.  He worked  there when the plane crashed on 9/11 and was the chief chaplain in charge on site during clean-up.  It was incredibly sobering to hear him relive the day and to walk through the area where the plane crashed.

On Friday night my dad took me to this really nice restaurant on the Potomac River.
The hotel made our reservations and we were definitely treated like VIP Guest.  I'm not sure if my favorite part was the personally printed menues that said "the Chart house and Michaele would like to welcome the GriSSIths" or when the host, waiter, chef, and manager all personally came to our table to welcome us.
I am not one to take pictures of food, but this food was amazing and definitely picture worthy!
On Saturday we did an all day tour through the city.

I snapped this picture at the World War 2 memorial.  This couple below were on our bus.  He was in WW2.  They were pretty old and not able to get out of the bus much, but for this memorial they did!  I thought it was so cool watching him and his wife walk arm in arm through the memorial.  This is why I love photography.  I LOVE photographing these moments like these.  He has lived through SO much.  It was cool to hear our tour guide mention something in history and have him pipe in and say he witnessed that or was alive for that.  I am sure this was a special tour for him
There was actually several bus loads of Veterans visiting this memorial and even Bob Dole was there.
On the steps of the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King Jr Stood for his great speech
It was a great weekend seeing the beautiful city of Washington DC and spending time with my dad!  And now after visiting all thee memorials and monuments I think I need to go brush up on my history!  It's amazing how much of that American History info you can forget when you've been out of school a few years.
Thanks Dad for a great weekend!
