One thing God continues to teach me is that things just don't always go my way. This weekend was no exception. You see this weekend was planned a certain way for awhile. It all started on Friday night when roommate Hannah's brooklyn boy asked her to be his wife. Quite the party was planned and family and friends were flying in from various places to celebrate! The proposal and party went on without a hitch and the oh so very cute couple are now engaged!
But that was Friday and only the beginning of the weekend. And then Saturday came. That was the day I had a plane ticket to go to AL to attend my 10 year high school reunion and spend time with friends. It was going to be a super quick trip, but a fun trip indeed. Well, you and I both know what happened instead. A little (or big) hurricane decided to visit the East Coast and hit the big apple. I wont go in to all the media coverage and how they might have overdramatized this storm just a bit. BUT let's be honest, anything big that happens in this city is going to get lots of attention. Plus you have a lot to think about when you are dealing with a city of millions, living on land surrounded by water, largely dependent upon a public transportation system that is being shut down. and the list goes on. So all that to say, the trip was cancelled and instead I spent my weekend in Irene territory. I tried to take a pic from my apt when Irene was reving up, but hanging out a 9th floor window when rain is blowing in your face was not the easiest tasks, and therefore this was the only pic I got. Not much to see I do admit.
So a hurricane was hitting and I was missing my trip.
I made up my mind early on to go with the flow on this one. (aka not dwell on it and just make the best of the situation) and so make the best of it we did. We were already scheduled to have an apt full of guests for the weekend from the engagement party and so now it just became one big Irene party. We were definitely trapped in the apt for most of the weekend but when you have this many people in small Manhattan apt you definitely learn to make your own fun. I think the best moment of the weekend was around 9 PM on Saturday when we decided we need a little group pick me up. We assigned the drink master Carl to mix up a few fun drinks, and we all gathered in the living room for what I decided to call "the game of fun" (aka I could not remember the name of the game) Even the neighbors from downstairs came up. Lance took away all electronics and we had a great time playing this made up game.(glorified charades)
By Sunday we had been cooped up for 24 hours and we were just a tad bit stir crazy. Irene had come and gone and little to no damage was done.(Praise the Lord!) so we decided to venture out to find some food.
And here are the 9A Irene Survivors
We found some food at Big Daddys.
We might have ordered almost everything on the menu....you know because sitting in an apt like bumps on a log while a hurricane blows through does make you hungry.
And we did have some fun taking pictures while we waited for that food!
The rest of the weekend was spent watching movies, sitting, watching the news, sitting, talking, sleeping, and sitting. At least if you are going to be in a hurricane it's better to be with lots of people! It was a random weekend, and not one I would have planned, but it was definitely entertaining and fun!
And now i've experienced a record blizzard, a earthquake, and a hurricane in NYC (all in the last 8 months) What's next? Seriously, let's hope nothing! I am disappointed about not going to Al and missing my reunion, but I definitely hope to make that trip soon to see friends!
And now the sun is out, the metro system is back up and running, and real life is back. Our apt is still full of people, but slowly flights are being re-scheduled and 9A will empty out. This will definitely be a weekend I don't think New Yorkers will forget.

I am sorry you missed your reunion but it sounds like you had A LOT of fun! P.S. When can you spill the beans about what show your apt is going to be featured on?!!
